For this chapter of the Journal, Laura Álvarez created a series of images during her stay in Lanzarote. A work where landscape, light, and objects coexist naturally. Where our Essenzia bag integrates as just another piece of the environment.
From this project, we spoke with her about her creative process, what inspires her, and how context influences her perspective.
About Laura Álvarez
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve been very connected to the creative.”
Her connection to the visual began early. Although she considered architecture for a time, by age 13 she already knew she wanted to be part of the fashion industry.
Today, her work moves between photography, art direction, and visual strategy, disciplines she sees as a single language.
“Art direction provides meaning and coherence. Visual strategy gives the image a purpose.”
For her, creation is an intuitive process that starts with an idea, always linked to an emotion.
“I’m interested in images feeling honest, not forced.”

Process
"I work from observation and sensitivity."
Her practice focuses on light, details, and what happens around her. Each project evolves organically, leaving room for the unexpected.
"There are contexts that require more action and others that call for stopping."
During this project, this balance is transferred to the process itself: creating in motion, without a fixed routine, allows her to work from intuition.

The trip to Lanzarote: a place where matter, light, and silence define the rhythm.
The environment becomes an essential part of the outcome.
“The color palette and volcanic textures create a very distinct aesthetic.”
The bag appears naturally within this context.

As an extension of the landscape.
“I felt that the shape and character fit the environment, as if it belonged there.”
During the trip, the process becomes freer.
“Everything happens more intuitively and less controlled.”
About Zon&Zee
"I like to surround myself with functional pieces, with well-thought-out design and aesthetics."
Objects are part of her way of working. They accompany, facilitate, and also build language.
A bag, for her, is functionality and presence.
"Each bag represents a need or a stage, and many end up loaded with memories."
